About EDI Standards
Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) enables computer-to-computer exchange of business documents in a standard electronic format between business partners.
X12 (ANSI ASC X12):
- Primary EDI standard used in North America
- Uses * as element separator and ~ as segment terminator
- Common transactions: 850 (Purchase Order), 810 (Invoice), 856 (ASN)
EDIFACT (UN/EDIFACT):
- International EDI standard developed by the United Nations
- Uses + as element separator and ' as segment terminator
- Widely used in Europe and Asia
